Monday, October 12 is Indigenous Peoples’ Day. This holiday celebrates and honors Native American peoples and commemorates their histories, cultures, and teachings.

We honor America’s first inhabitants and the Tribal Nations that continue to thrive today. Indigenous People's Day is also an opportunity to reflect on historical injustices against Indigenous communities and ongoing inequities.

We invite you to participate in activities that promote understanding and respect for Indigenous cultures. Together, let’s foster a community that values diversity and inclusivity.

Jefferson Union High School District honors and acknowledges the many important observances recognized throughout the month of October.

These occasions provide opportunities to celebrate our communities, recognize important contributions, raise awareness, and strengthen our commitment to belonging and inclusion.

🌎 Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month — September 15–October 15

Celebrating the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic and Latine communities and recognizing the many ways they have enriched our schools, communities, and nation.

🧡 Filipino American History Month
Celebrating the rich history, culture, and contributions of Filipino Americans.

🏳️‍🌈 LGBTQ+ History Month
Recognizing the history, achievements, and contributions of LGBTQ+ communities.

💙 Bullying Prevention Month
Promoting kindness, respect, empathy, and safe and supportive schools for every student.

📚 National Dyslexia Awareness Month
Raising awareness and understanding of dyslexia and celebrating the strengths and diverse ways students learn.

🎀 Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Raising awareness about breast cancer, honoring those affected, and supporting education and early detection.

🍎 World Teachers' Day — October 5
Celebrating educators and recognizing the important role teachers play in inspiring, supporting, and empowering students.

🌿 Indigenous Peoples' Day — October 12
Recognizing and honoring the histories, cultures, contributions, and resilience of Indigenous peoples.
