Summer Reading 2023 

Incoming 9th Graders:

All incoming 9th graders will read Buddha Boy by Kathe Koja. 

9th Graders who have been placed or are interested in taking Enriched English 9 will read both Buddha Boy and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. 

10th - 11th -12th Graders:

We are excited to continue with our “one school – one book” summer reading project. 

The summer reading assignment for all rising Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors is Dry by Neal and Jarrod Shusterman.

When school resumes in August, a test and formal writing assignments will take place in all English classes.

The novel is available for purchase at Florey’s, Amazon and Target and is also available at our public libraries.  It can also be found as an E-book and audiobook.

Additionally, if your student is taking English 10E, English 11H, AP English Language, or AP English Literature, they have an additional reading assignment which they should have gotten from Mrs. Jenkins, Mrs. Meskin, or Mr. Colvig at a lunch/brunch meeting this week.  If they did not, they should contact Mrs. Jenkins for 10E and AP Lit,  Mrs. Meskin for AP Lang, or Mr. Colvig for 11H.  We are working on getting the assignments on the school website -- www.juhsd.net/tnhs.
