Superintendent Message: Community Meeting about Baylands
Dear JUHSD Families and Students,
As I write this reminder about our upcoming virtual community meeting, I hope you had a chance to enjoy the sun before the next rain system moves in. According to some early research, “COVID-19 risk will decrease during the summer…largely due to the increase in UV light as days become longer.”
The Universal Paragon Corporation is planning a large development in Brisbane on the currently vacant waterfront. Full build-out will take at least ten years and will include seven million square feet of commercial space and 2,200 housing units. This development is within our JUHSD attendance area. The developer who predicts the development will generate another 100 JUHSD students has committed to building a school. In partnership with the Bayshore District, we are thinking about a school that serves students in grades six through twelve where we could leverage resources to provide STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math), VAPA (Visual and Performing Arts) and World Languages programming across all grades levels. An early-middle college program in partnership with Skyline College is also under consideration.
During the virtual community meeting, the Bayshore and Brisbane superintendents and I will be discussing this development and how our three districts are responding and planning together for the eventual buildout. Please calendar Monday, May 18 at 6:00 p.m. and use the webinar link below to participate:
More details about the planned development are available online at https://brisbanebaylands.com/.
As we plan for the “return to school”, our health and safety will continue to be my top priority. Thank you for the extra care and attention you are providing to your family and friends—and please provide that same extra care to yourself.
