    Counseling Services

Terra Nova counselors provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program that supports the academic, career, and personal/social needs of all students. Counselors are focused on improving student achievement, ensuring equal access, enhancing the educational experience of our students, and preparing them for a successful life beyond high school. Additionally, our Wellness Counselor supports the emotional and social needs of students, families, and the school community.

    Academic Planning

Counselors work with students, individually and in groups, to create four-year plans based on the student’s postsecondary goals. During freshman year, students create a plan based on JUHSD graduation requirements, college entrance requirements, and advanced programs. Each subsequent year, counselors work with students to update the plan based on student progress, incorporating prospective careers and college majors based on career interest inventories.

    College and Career Center

The College and Career Center is located in Room 209 on campus. It is an information resource center that provides students with the following information: college brochures and catalogs, interest/personality assessments, scholarship information, scholarship applications and search programs, job opportunities, work permits, and trade school brochures and catalogs.

    Outreach Events

Several times a year, counselors host grade-level information nights and financial aid workshops for parents and students. Additionally, counselors offer assistance to all seniors during the college application process. Counselors will provide multiple college application workshops in September and October.
