Advanced Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Course:
24 Continuing Education Units each.
This course provides continuing education classes to Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) students to enable them to renew their certificates issued from the Department of Health Services.
Topics include, learning how the circulatory and digestive systems function in a healthy body; recognizing diseases that occur in the circulatory and digestive systems; understanding the principles of good nutrition, and becoming aware of measures to prevent health problems in women. They also include, recognizing and understanding type 1 and type 2 diabetes; learning how to identify fetal alcohol syndrome and alcohol abuse; understanding how to prevent AIDS and recognizing symptoms of elder abuse.

Bernadette Newland is a credentialed healthcare instructor with over 12 years of experience teaching medical courses through the San Mateo County Office of Education and the San Mateo Community College District. In addition to the variety of courses she has developed and taught within the health science and medical technology field, she specializes in teaching adult students who are learning English and medical terminology.
