• Principal Ahrens

It is my pleasure to serve you as the principal of Westmoor High School. My name is Brockton Ahrens and this is my thirty-second year in education and my fourteenth year in administration. Prior to becoming principal at Westmoor High School, I served as a secondary instructional leader for Duplin County Schools in North Carolina, working with low performing high schools and middle schools for the purpose of raising overall student achievement. Prior to that, I was principal of North Duplin Junior/Senior High School (a top 5% finisher in NC), principal of West Brunswick High School (a top 5% finisher in NC and Career and Technical Education ranked #3 in NC), principal of South Brunswick Middle School (a NC Distinguished School), vice principal at West Brunswick High School and a teacher for sixteen years in the Fremont Unified School District.

My educational background includes a masters in educational leadership, from Saint Mary’s College, a masters in health and physical education from Saint Mary’s College, and a bachelor’s in health, physical education and recreation from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where I also played college basketball. I recently began pursuing my doctorate in educational leadership at St. Mary’s College. I truly believe that we are lifelong learners and it’s important to role model this to our students and our staff.

I’m blessed to be a proud father of four beautiful children, Lawson 29, Hailey 25, Natalie 23 and Bryce 21.

Excellence through equity is removing the barriers in education so every student at Westmoor High School can reach their maximum potential emotionally, socially and academically. I believe strongly that the foundation of Westmoor High School lies in our culture and how we engage and work together as a school community where everyone has a voice. We will achieve this by championing our four pillars:

    • Act with integrity and treat everyone with respect
    • Collaborate using our collective intelligence
    • Plan with critical thinking and thoroughness
    • Serve others with an open heart and an open mind

Some of our greatest work will be accomplished in our professional learning communities, where our teachers will have the opportunity to collaborate and share best practices using research based instructional strategies to drive their instruction.

My door is always open for collaboration with the Westmoor community, where we put our students at the center of our decision making.
