Our Mission

Our mission is to provide educational opportunities for all students at Westmoor for the appreciation, understanding, and practice of the arts to establish this as an integral part in our community.

Activities and curriculum are designed to fulfill the following five Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards:

Students will develop and improve skills for completing the objectives necessary to be successful in our post-industrial economy.

 Visual Arts Courses

Art 1

Beginner Level

Grades 9,10,11,12

One Year

Do you like art? Make new friends while creating fun beginning level projects!

DRAWING & PAINTING

Prerequisites: None

Open to: 10, 11, 12

Length of Course: One Year

Have you ever wanted to learn how to draw or improve your drawing skills? We’ll use charcoal, pens, paints and other materials.

Theater Arts

Beginner Level

Grades 9,10,11,12

One Year

 Have you always wanted to be on stage, in Drama or musicals? Learn stagecraft, lighting and stage make up.

 Art 2

Prerequisites: Art 1

Grades 9*,10,11,12

*recommendation from your 8th grade  art teacher required

Continue to explore elements and principles of design in this highe level class.

 

 SCULPTURE

Prerequisites: None

Open to: 9, 10, 11, 12

Length of Course: One Year

Do you like to work with your hands and tools? We’ll work in glass, stone andmosaic. This is a UC/CSU-f approved course.

 ADVANCED THEATER ARTS

Prerequisites: Beginning Theater Arts

or permission of instructor.

Open to: 10, 11, 12

Length of Course: One Year

Advanced Theater Arts is a course in which students are directly involved in production, directing, script writing,choreography, acting techniques, costuming, and makeup. Student productions will be performed throughout the year. Students are expected to honor their commitments in fulfilling class and student production obligations.

 AP STUDIO ART (2-D)

Prerequisites: Grade A in Art 1-2 or

Photography, or teacher permission

Open to: 11, 12

Length of Course: One Year

Earn College credit for studio art. Applications available in March. A student who enrolls in AP Studio Art 2-D commits to submitting a portfolio to the College Board for evaluation.

CERAMICS 1

Prerequisites: None

Open to: 9, 10, 11, 12

Length of Course: One Year

Learn to build clay art by hand and on a potter’s wheel.

 

SYMPHONIC BAND

Prerequisites: None

Open to: 9

Length of Course: One Year

Do you play a musical instrument? Make life-long friends and work as a team.

 
 Introduction To Photography

Beginner Level

Grades 10,11,12

One Year

Must have your own 35mm camera

 CERAMICS 2

Prerequisites: A grade of “C” or better

in Ceramics 1-2 or permission of

instructor.

Open to: 10, 11, 12

Length of Course: One Year

Work independently on your own clay vprojects. Advanced students will further develop skills on the potters’ wheel.

 CHORUS

Prerequisites: A serious desire to sing

in a group.
