A Message from Superintendent Dan Burns
To the Students, Parents, Staff, and Communities of the Jefferson Union High School District:On June 21, 2016, the JUHSD Board of Trustees bestowed upon me the honor and privilege of serving as your Superintendent of Schools. I fully understand the responsibility that comes with this position and I am thrilled to join the Jefferson Union High School District community.
Surely this will be a time of transition for our district as well as most of our school sites that will have new people in leadership roles. At the same time, this will be a time to honor our traditions and build on the achievements of our students and staff.
As I begin my tenure as Superintendent, I bring a student-centered focus and an unwavering belief that all students can learn given the appropriate conditions for learning. This central belief has been cultivated throughout the past 26 years that I have been an educator. My experiences in education are diverse and include being a counselor, teacher, assistant principal, high school principal and associate superintendent. Within each of these roles I have been committed to providing exemplary leadership and I am already working to do the same in the JUHSD.
Over the next few weeks and months I will be working collaboratively with our Board of Education and our staff to assess the attributes that make JUHSD great and those that need attention to become even greater. During that time there will be opportunities set up to meet with me in various community places and in our schools. Once the calendar of meetings is established it will be communicated to all stakeholders and I will look forward to meeting you to discuss our vision for an exemplary learning community.
Again I am honored to join the Jefferson Union High School District and on behalf of the Board of Trustees, I extend my best wishes for a successful 2016-2017 school year.
Dan Burns, Superintendent of Schools
