Welcome to Westmoor High School,
Allow me to introduce myself as I have been recently chosen as your new principal at Westmoor High School. I come to this position with over fifteen years in the classroom and over ten years as a high school site administrator. Add to this my involvement in doctoral studies. Given these opportunities, I feel like I have an assortment of experiences that will support Westmoor’s continued success in the time ahead.
It’s no secret that Westmoor has been a school known for its academic, athletic, and artistic achievements. My hope, as your new principal is to both continue this tradition and improve upon it. To do so we will continue to lean into our strengths such as an outstanding faculty whose work and commitment to our students continually inspires. We will also continue to look to our community of learners and our parents to help us on this journey.
Westmoor has much to be proud of, for example, in our recent WASC evaluation we were able to show compelling evidence that Westmoor offered an environment of “high-quality student learning and programmatic implementation”. This top-tier evaluation resulted in a remarkable Six-Year Accreditation with a One-Day follow-up visit. Such a result is very rare and speaks to an approach to education about which our entire community should be very proud.
This commitment extends itself further into our athletic programs where our students have found just how meaningful participation in the competitive arena can be. Along these lines, the same kind of enthusiasm is also seen among those students whose artistic expression is shared and appreciated both inside and outside of our community.
Perhaps most importantly, our students are actively engaged in making the world a better place. When one puts these attributes together, it’s easy to see how Westmoor’s mission to support the growth of happy, healthy, and innovative people from diverse backgrounds, turns its students into great people. Our job, as a community of learners, is to make sure this process continues by keeping our focus on a clear vision: “excellence for, and from, all students.” This will be our North Star as we move forward.
While those of us here at school get to see this “excellence” on display each day, we all know that this doesn’t show up on its own. It happens because people care and commit to engaging in a process of continuous improvement, where people see that our diversity is a strength rather than a weakness.
With this in mind, I look forward to the continued commitment to excellence at all levels of this growth process. Your support, as individuals, as families, and as a community, continues to make it possible to extend and enhance what we can do here. For this, I am grateful. Most of all I am excited to see how our shared commitments align in order to support each of our students and the diversity that makes us stand out as a truly remarkable institution.
Because of you, we can continue to move towards making this great school even better. Thanks to you, we are increasingly able to ensure that we can actually see excellence for, and from, all of Westmoor’s students; students that are increasingly, happy, healthy, and innovative as they grow into engaged citizens in their immediate communities and the world. With you, we can improve upon the
strengths that have made Westmoor a school of rare promise.
This is an exciting time to be at Westmoor. Together we can co-author our next chapter. To this end, it is my honor to serve our students, our staff, our faculty and all of you.
Thank you,Dr. Michael McAlister
