Dear Terra Nova parents and guardians,
This afternoon after students had been dismissed, the Pacifica Police Department contacted Terra Nova High School directing us to place the campus on lockdown.
Staff members and coaches immediately began working to usher students into safe locations throughout our campus.
It was later learned that the Pacifica Police Department had received a report of a male subject on the Terra Nova campus holding a rifle or shotgun, which prompted the lockdown.
The shotgun was determined to be a prop, which had been used by the drama program. It had been rendered inoperable. The Pacifica Police Department then determined there to be no actual threat to our campus and our lockdown was lifted.
Going forward, we will be working to address this matter on multiple levels. The drama program will complete an entire inventory and processes will be reviewed to ensure drama props are appropriate for use on a school campus.
I would like to thank the staff members: teachers, coaches, campus supervisors, and clerical staff who worked to keep our students safe and comfortable during the lockdown. I would also like to thank our students for their patience while the situation was thoroughly investigated, and the community for working with us to keep our campus safe.
If you wish to contact me, you can reach me at (650) 550-7670 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. A friendly reminder that all district phone and internet service will be temporarily out of service next week. All emails and phone calls will be returned after December 26th.
I wish all Terra Nova families a very peaceful holiday season.
